Sale Sharks host DMP Sharks at the Corpacq Stadium in round 17 of the Allianz Premier 15s this Saturday (KO 2pm)
Katy Daley-Mclean and Callum Yorke said patience will be key as Sharks face off against DMP Durham in a northern derby this weekend.
Katy said: “I don’t think the girls will need any special motivation for this one. It will be pitched as the battle of the north but they’re a proud group and set themselves some key targets for the end of the season. If anything, motivating players will be our easier job on Saturday – the girls will be in a really good place and up for this game
Sharks’ last result came in the form of a hard-fought 21-28 victory against Wasps in the Allianz Cup. They enter the weekend on the back of a two-game winning streak.
Callum said: “Wasps was a moment for the girls to realise that they can get the results they deserve if they’re patient. Our backs were against the wall, we were down to 14 players, and we still defended well. It will be a good springboard for us to launch into these fixtures against Worcester and DMP.”
Sharks only victory in the Premier 15s this season came against DMP in October last year – a 0-31 whitewash featuring two tries from Catie Benson either side of half-time.
Yet to record a win in competition this season, DMP’s last victory came in a friendly against the Army in March, battling to 27-22 triumph.
Callum said: “DMP have improved since we last met. We need to show the best version of us this weekend. If we’re patient, we keep the ball well, we force them to make errors, we’re physical, we’re abrasive, I think we can put in a really good performance.”
Katy said: “We will need to be patient because if you look at DMP’s results throughout the season – even against the top teams – they’ve been in it at half time. We can’t just sit there and expect this just to happen. We’ve got to turn up, play, and follow what we said we were going to do.
