Red Roses fly-half – and Formby native – Holly Aitchison returned home to the North West when she signed for Sale Sharks from Bristol Bears ahead of the 2025/26 PWR season.

Named in World Rugby Women’s 15s Dream Team of the Year along with five other England players, Holly is one of world rugby’s most exciting backs, and has made the England number ten shirt her own since making her debut in 2021.

Holly’s first experience of rugby came as a junior at Waterloo, where her father, Ian, was director of rugby.

Recognised as a huge talent from an early age, she gained international recognition at both age grade level as well as on the HSBC World Sevens Series and at the Olympic Games for Team GB.

In 2020 Holly joined Saracens, and the following year scored a try on her England 15s debut.

She was named in the starting line-up for the 2021 Rugby World Cup final and earned a call-up to Simon Middleton's Six Nations squad in 2023.

Later that year, Holly featured in the Red Roses’ title-winning campaign at the inaugural WXV1 tournament in New Zealand and was named in John Mitchell's squad for the 2024 and 2025 Guinness Women's Six Nations tournaments.

Holly was part of the England squad for the 2025 Women’s World Cup.
