After sustaining a hamstring injury in the win over Quins two weeks ago, Rob’s absence this weekend will bring an end to an extraordinary run of 88 consecutive league starts.
In an open letter, Rob has thanked the fans, coaches, teammates, family and backroom staff. You can read his words below;
After 7 unforgettable years at Sale Sharks, my time on the field has come to an end.
It’s difficult to put into words what this club has meant to me and my family. From the moment we arrived in Manchester, we were embraced by the supporters, the staff, the players, and the wider Sale community. You made this place feel like home.

To the supporters — thank you for every bit of support over the years. Every home game, every away game, every message, every conversation, and every moment of backing us no matter the outcome. Your loyalty and passion are second to none, and I’ll always be grateful for the way you supported not only me, but my family too.
To all the staff and everyone behind the scenes at Sale Sharks, thank you for everything you’ve done for me throughout my time at the club. So much of what people see on a weekend is built by the hard work of those behind closed doors.
To my teammates — thank you for the friendships, the memories, and the bonds that will last far beyond rugby. Some of my closest friendships in life were built in that changing room.

And to have shared the field for so many years with my brothers, Jean-Luc and Dan, is something I’ll always hold incredibly dear. Those memories together are priceless, and something I’ll carry with me forever.

While my playing days at Sale are coming to an end, I’m looking forward to the final few weeks of the season, saying goodbye properly over the last two home games, and continuing to support the boys in any way I can.
Sale Sharks will always hold a special place in my heart.
Thank you for everything ❤️🦈
Rob
