MATCH REPORT: SARACENS vs SALE SHARKS WOMEN
Sale Sharks Women came out on the wrong side of a bruising encounter with the current PWR Next Gen Cup champions in a blustery day at the StoneX, 26-12.
Saracens came out of the blocks fast in the second round of the tournament and their maul got to work twice in the opening ten minutes before Sale responded.
Sophie Hopkins continued her form from last weekend’s opener and danced her way around full-back Jo-Linkins to dot down from s30 metres out, making it two in the opening two games for her, to get Sale on the board.
Unfortunately for the visiting team, Saracens had one more in them before half time. The north London side looked to make it a trio of maul tries in the half but a resolute effort from Sale’s forwards held them off before the ball was shipped wide and Jo-Linkins scored to make it 19-5.
The second half saw both teams go toe-to-toe for twenty minutes before Sale made the first impression on the scoreboard. Wrestling momentum from Saracens a huge driving maul earned a penalty try and a yellow card for Poppy Cleall to give travelling fans hope of a comeback.
Unfortunately for those fans, Sale couldn’t finish it off and Saracens found one final score with eight minutes to go to wrap up a hard-fought game 26-12.
