MATCH REPORT: LEICESTER TIGERS vs SALE SHARKS WOMEN

Sale Sharks Women took a huge step towards securing their first ever JAECOO PWR Next Gen Cup semi-final with a resounding victory away to Leicester Tigers.

After a tight first half Sale piled on the tries, shutting out the home side in the process to finish 10-41 on a damp midlands afternoon.

The two halves could not have been more different. A scrappy, close first 40 saw both sides score tries. Tigers opened the scoring before Milly Hyndman struck off the base of the maul and Sophie Hopkins continued her scoring run with a sensational try that went the length of the pitch. The 20-year-old has now scored in all four Cup games and will be looking to carry the form into the new league campaign.

The only other points of the half came with the boot. Tigers slotted a penalty in front of the posts that brough them within two points when the teams headed for the sheds with Sale leading 10-12.

The second half saw a return to the dominant form that had earned Sale such a convincing victory last time out against Exeter.

Holly Thorpe and Charlotte Fray both got on the scoresheet, either side of Hyndman’s second.

Captain Sharifa Kasolo stretched over from close range and Sophie Hopkins finished in the corner to wrap up the game with Sale comfortable winners, 10-41.

Now the side will hold their breath as results come in next weekend. If Saracens defeat Exeter at home it will mean a first ever semi-final in any competition for the Manchester side.

With semi-finals on the horizon, fans can also prepare for the start of the new JAECOO PWR season. The opening three home games are on sale now and we can’t wait to welcome you back to the Morson Stadium on 21st November.
