MATCH REPORT | SALE SHARKS JETS 38 v 12 HARLEQUINS JESTERS

Your Sale Shark Jets returned in style in their season opener as they scored six tries past Harlequins Jesters on a very emotionally-charged day at the CorpAcq Stadium.

Ahead of kick off players, coaches and staff from both sides joined supporters in a minute’s silence in honour of former Shark Hyron Andrews, who sadly died on Friday.

When the whistle blew it was the Harlequins Jesters who started the quickest as they dotted down within the first five minutes. However, our Jets responded quickly as they went through the phases and eventually a silky offload from Tristan Woodman saw captain Tom Burrow dot down under the posts. The conversion from Ollie Davies was successful to bring the score to 7-5.

This slender lead didn’t last long as the Jesters responded with a converted try to bring the scores to 7-12 at half time.

The Jets came firing out in the second half as a break from Ralph McEachran brought them one metre short before Jos Gilmore touched down.

The Jets kept on coming as a lineout move straight from the training ground saw Alfie Longstaff burst through the Jesters defence. The young hooker marched 40 metres towards the Jesters line before Ollie Davies zipped the ball out wide to Dylan Hodkinson who sat down the Jesters full back before powering over the line.

The pressure kept on piling on the Jesters as Yorkshireman Alfie scored his first rolling maul try before scoring another try from a rolling maul a few minutes later. Alfie then completed his hat-trick after diving over from close range following a great break from Reuben Logan.

The full-time whistle went and a resounding 38-12 victory for the Jets announced their return to action in style.
