CLUB SPOTLIGHT | OLD BEDIANS

Club Name: Old Bedians RUFC

Nickname: Bedes

Ground: Millgate Lane

League: 1st XV play in Counties 3 ADM Lancashire and Cheshire

Sharklinks: With a strong and thriving junior section we have a number of players in the Sale Sharks DPP programme with high hopes they will break into the senior setup. Our most famous link is former Sale player, Des Pastore MBE who founded Old Bedians in 1954. He holds the record for the most tries scored in a season, notching 68 tries which still hasn’t been beaten. Des also played to the ripe old age of 93 donning his gold shorts, they don’t make them like Des anymore!

Unsung Hero: We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated group of amazing volunteers at Old Bedians. Our band of volunteers go above and beyond week in, week out and without them we simply wouldn’t be Didsbury’s finest rugby club. Three of our volunteers were recognised by Lancashire RFU and awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award in May, so a special mention must go to Jane Ash, Jonathan Gander and Ryan Keyes for their work behind the scenes with the junior and senior sections, coaching and pitch maintenance.

Favourite Sharks Moment: Last season’s Premiership semi-final at home to Leicester was the best atmosphere we’ve experienced at the Salford Stadium. The stadium was an absolute cauldron and the Sharks performance on the pitch matched the passion from the stands. It was extra special for us as our junior section led the players onto the pitch and we had over a hundred proud parents and players cheering them on too. We can’t wait to do this same this year (fingers crossed).
