Your Sharks will be sharing the city’s sporting stage with another physically challenging event this weekend as the Manchester Marathon takes place.
The annual race, which starts close to Old Trafford, gets underway just before 9am ahead of Sharks’ fixture at home to Saracens in the afternoon.
And two of the club’s backroom staff will be lacing up their running shoes to tackle the 26.2 miles – and then get back to the CorpAcq Stadium in time for kick off.
Senior Strength and Conditioning Coach Adam Simpson and Women’s Sports Scientist Charlotte Drainer are raising money for The Christie Charity, helping to raise funds for a brand-new, state-of-the-art cancer scanning centre.
The fundraising mirrors the collections which happened at the 1936 Middlesex Sevens at Twickenham, which was won by a Sale team dubbed ‘The Northern Force.’
Back then proceeds from the event went towards the expansion of the Middlesex Hospital’s Cancer Wing but 90 years on the club has picked a cause closer to home.
The current CT department at The Christie Hospital was built in 1980 and originally saw just 20 patients a day. Today, demand has grown significantly — and the facilities need to keep pace.

This new centre will transform care, creating more space for patients and their loved ones, alongside cutting-edge equipment to support faster, more accurate diagnoses.
Fans can support the fundraising efforts by buying a physical commemorative matchday programme at Sunday’s fixture, or by donating to the fundraising page – click here for more details or to donate.
All profits from the sale of the programme, which costs five pounds, will be split between the Christie Charity and our very own Sale Sharks Foundation.
