Marchant returns as SIX Sharks are called up
England Rugby head coach Steve Borthwick has named six Sharks – including Joe Marchant and Ben Curry – in a 36-player squad for the forthcoming Nations Championship, with England set to face Australia at Allianz Stadium on Sunday 8 November in Round 4 (kick-off 3.10pm, live on ITV1).
Marchant hasn’t played for England since the 2023 World Cup but has become eligible again since joining Sharks in the summer. He joins Ben and Tom Curry, Luke Cowan-Dickie, Asher Opoku-Fordjour and George Ford in a squad made up of 20 forwards and 16 backs.
The squad assembles at England’s Performance Centre at Pennyhill Park this evening (Monday 2 November).
“We’re looking forward to getting back to Allianz Stadium for four important Test matches against top-level opposition,” said Borthwick.
“These fixtures take on added significance this Autumn as they represent our final opportunity to face Southern Hemisphere opposition before next year’s Rugby World Cup.
“Facing Australia next Sunday is an exciting challenge. They have played a significant amount of Test rugby in recent months, and we know the quality and experience they will bring.”
Following the Australia fixture, England will face Japan and New Zealand at Allianz Stadium in Rounds 5 and 6, before Finals Weekend from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 November. For more information, visit www.nationschampionshiprugby.com
All of England’s Nations Championship fixtures will be broadcast live and exclusively on ITV1.
