Match Report: Sharks secure Round 14 victory down at The Stoop.

Sale Sharks delivered a bonus-point performance in sunny West London on Saturday, running out 52–33 winners over Harlequins.

Needing a response following last weekend’s home defeat, the Sharks made the perfect start, striking inside the opening two minutes. From the restart, Sale moved the ball sharply through the hands, allowing Sam Dugdale to finish out wide and open the scoring.

With 10 minutes played, Sale earned a penalty to gain territory inside the Quins 22. The forward pack applied sustained pressure at the line before Sale Sharks academy graduate, Alfie Longstaff powered over from close range to extend the lead.

Harlequins responded through Chandler Cunningham-South, whose try shifted momentum in the hosts’ favour. That pressure soon told, as Guido Petti Pagadizábal broke through the Sale defence for a superb 40-metre solo effort try. Marcus Smith added the conversion to hand Quins the lead for the first time.

The hosts continued to capitalise, punishing a loose Sale pass. Smith reacted quickly to a turnover, spotting space out wide and releasing Jamie Benson to finish, extending Quins’ advantage.

Sale, however, responded immediately. A penalty for offside close to the Quins line was taken quickly, with Ernst van Rynn taking the quick tap. The ball was worked wide through Tom O’Flaherty before George Ford forced his way over, adding the extras to close the gap.

The Sharks regained the lead just before the break with an outstanding counter-attacking try. Tom Roebuck broke from inside his own 22, beating multiple defenders before linking with Tom O’Flaherty, who finished in the corner. Sale went into halftime narrowly ahead at 24–21.

Harlequins started the second half strongly. Despite the huge shift from Jacques Vermeulen to chase back and turnover the ball inside his own 22’. During the exit Gus Warr clearance kick got charged down allowing Quins to win the scraps and Hayden Hyde to crash over.

Approaching the hour mark, Sale fought their way back into the contest. Returning to their set-piece strength inside the 22, James Harper powered over from close range. Momentum swung further when replacement prop Tumy Onasanya made a strong carry to break inside the 22’ to allow Harper to go over for his second and bringing Sale back into control.

With the game entering its final stages, Sale showed composure to close it out. Tom Roebuck sealed the victory in the closing minutes, finishing a well-worked move to close out the game.
