MATCH PREVIEW – Sale Sharks Women v Wasps Women

Sale Sharks Women host Wasps Women at Chester RUFC in round 15 of the Allianz Premier 15s on Saturday (KO 2pm)

The Sharks need to maintain discipline in key areas of the pitch against Wasps this weekend said Women’s Performance Lead Katy Daley-Mclean.

Reduced to 14-women early-on, Sharks conceded just one try in a hard-fought first-half away to Wasps at Twyford Avenue earlier this season.

Katy said: “Discipline has been important for us all season. It’s definitely something that we’ve continued to talk about as a group and its implications when we aren’t.

“Probably the bigger issue is – yes, teams will give away pens, but, for us, as soon as we start giving away pens inside our 10m line they generally lead to points.

“Trying to manage ourselves better in those situations – if we can do that it will allow us to stay in the game for longer periods.”

Sharks will not host Wasps at their usual Heywood Road stomping ground this weekend with the Corpacq Stadium unplayable due to adverse pitch conditions. Instead, the game is being held at Chester RUFC.

Katy said: “I think sometimes a change of scenery can do wonders – going to Chester is a great opportunity for us and for Sale Sharks Women to continue to grow the Sharks family in a region where we’re pretty new.

“For this group, it’s a good opportunity to go again and for the girls to put into action the things we’ve talked about this week.”
