MAN DOwn, No Bother

Sale lose Rohan Janse van Rensburg to the sin bin but it doesn’t effect the boys. After winning back to back penalties inside the Falcons half, Sale send Ewan Ashman over to score their fifth try from inside the Newcastle 22.

It's Hammertime

Simon Hammersley proves to be the difference as his score just two minutes after entering the field gives the Sharks an eight point buffer at the end of the third quarter.

It’s still all to play for with lots of running rugby going on at the AJ Bell!

end to end stuff

It seems like both sides have got plenty of energy tonight and keep on cancelling out each others scores.

After a great try from Ben Curry gives the Sharks at 6 point buffer, the Falcons score almost immediately to reduce the deficit to one point.

HALF TIME

Newcastle score through fly-half Joel Hodgson to take back the lead, but Sale instantly respond through Akker van der Merwe as the hooker worms his way over the line for a second try just before the half. Rob du Preez kicks us back in front.

Play is now more open and it looks like we’ve got a good second half on our hands.

A Physical battle

Sale fail to take advantage of their opportunities inside the Falcons 22 but Newcastle are yet to miss a beat in the red zone.

Both sides are throwing the kitchen sink at each other with some tasty positional battles on show, although there have been errors a plenty too from both teams.

Sharks still have the lead.

Set piece dominance

The Sharks win back to back scrum penalties late in the first quarter and gain some good field position into the Falcons 22.

Sale kick to touch and win the resulting line out, sending Akker van der Merwe over the line to counter Newcastle’s earlier score. Rob du Preez converts to put Sale in the lead.

All the feels

The first ten minutes of play are scoreless as both sides get a feel for each other early in the match.

Penalties for both Newcastle and Sale have offered good field position but it is the Falcons who have capitalised so far as hooker George McGuigan crashed over from short range following a maul.
