MATCH REPORT | Sharks women fall short against Saracens

Both Sale Sharks & Saracens came into Round Three of the PWR Cup looking to top the group after keeping a perfect record in the first two rounds of the competition but it was the visitors who eventually came out on top with a 27-14 victory at Heywood Road.

Sale, who kept a clean sheet in their first home match of the season against Leicester Tigers, were under pressure early as the visitors set up camp in their 22’ and after some big hits in the first ten minutes and eventually after mounting pressure, Saracens found a way to capitalise on their momentum to open the scoring.

Both teams traded hits in a gritty first half at Heywood Road, before Saracens added to their scoreline again. The visitors score was immediately cancelled out out by a huge Sale driving maul, with Scarlett Fielding taking the spoils and putting Sharks on the scoreboard.

The first half ended with Saracens scoring their third after multiple pick and go phases, bringing the score to 7-15 at the break.

The second half was equally as physical with both teams looking to gain the advantage with heavy hits. Sale responded on the 65th minute with Scarlett Fielding’s second driving maul score before Saracens put the game out of reach with a try that went the full length after a steal on their own five metre line.

Shark’s attention now turns to Bristol, with the winner making it out of the group stage and heading for the PWR semi final.

Sharks’ fans next chance to see the team at Heywood Road will be the PWR season opener against Leicester Tigers, with tickets available here
