MATCH REPORT | SALE SHARKS WOMEN 15 – 12 HARLEQUINS WOMEN

Sale Sharks Women showed huge fight and plenty of skill to edge out their London opposition in tough conditions to record back-to-back wins for the first time this season in front of a sold out Morson Stadium crowd.

The rain started coming down moments before the teams ran out and continued through the 80 minutes, but a determined Sale side dealt with the conditions fantastically to see out the win.

Sharks were tested early, bundling the Harlequin’s attack into touch centimetres from their own try line with barely three minutes on the clock. From there, Sale controlled the first half well. Rhona Lloyd scored in the corner after some powerful forward work and Amy Cokayne added a second to put Sale 12-0 ahead after 25 minutes.

Harlequins struggled to make an impression on the game but some individual brilliance from Claudia Peña got them on the board after her chip and chase opened the Quins’ account.

With conditions under foot worsening as the second half started, Harlequins fought their way back into the contest with a try from retiring Scotland great Jade Konkel bringing the visitors within three.

The visitors enjoyed plenty of territory and possession in the second period but the Sharks defence held firm, and kept out the opposition with some heroic goal-line defence to register their second win in as many weeks.

Sale now look ahead to Loughborough Lightning visiting the Morson Stadium in two weeks time, with the opportunity to make it three from three. Sale fans can secure their ticket here, ready to bring the energy in another big home crowd.
